Vasse Felix Heytesbury Chardonnay 2019

Vasse Felix Heytesbury Chardonnay 2019

  • $85.00*

For over 50 years, Vasse Felix has been a pioneer in the emergence of Australia’s finest cool-climate wines. We are huge fans of this estate, and the rest of the wine world is rapidly catching on to this remarkable Margaret River gem.

Established in 1967, Vasse Felix is a historic estate in the context of Australia, and as one of the founding wineries of Margaret River it occupies the best vineyards in the region. Brilliantly managed by 2017’s ‘Female Winemaker of the Year’ Virginia Wilcock, her wines are progressively more extraordinary each passing vintage.

Virginia’s magical, linear Heytesbury Chardonnay 2019 is a masterclass in Australian new wave elegance. A selection of the most unique and striking vineyard plots, the grapes are sourced from the Gingin Chardonnay Clone vine which provides a taut and refined profile with an abundance of grapefruit and citrus nose.

Only released after nine months aging in French oak barriques, the final product is “impressively intense, refined, subtly concentrated and extremely long-lasting”, and the newly released 2019 has garnered 97 points from Christina Pickard of the Wine Enthusiast and Huon Hooke of The Real Review.

Lauded as the “most cellar-worthy of the Vasse Chards” (WE), the 2019 is a total “knockout” in the words of Christina Pickard of the Wine Enthusiast. An excellent cool vintage in Margaret River, this wine shows “gorgeous natural acidity… with heady aromas of toasted nuts, flint, seashell, vanilla pod and seaweed-like umami note” (WE). The profile is decidedly Chablisienne, with the drive and mineral focus of a fine Bougros or Grenouilles, a bona fide rival to 1er Cru Burgundy.
